A body of a baby girl, who was only 10-month old, was discovered inside a house that was caught fire at Kampung Bangkahulu, Gemas. This horrifying incident happened yesterday, 19 February.
On the morning of 11.38 am, Siti Nur Aini Zulimi, the baby girl was found dead in the baby swing which was burnt.
According to Mohd Farid Abu Bakar, the firefighter said, the baby was left alone inside the house when the incident happened. The mother, aged 31 years old, went to the post office, which is located about 6km away from home at 10.30 am and asked her neighbor to take care of her baby if she cries.
The fire department received the call from a fishmonger who said a house was caught on fire when he saw the smoke coming out from the house. The mother rushed back to the house after getting the call from her neighbor. She tried to go into the house to save her infant but was stopped by the people because of the fiery situation.
The firefighter managed to put out the fire in the living room before it spread to the other parts of the house. According to Berita Harian, the burns covered 30% of the body and damaged almost 60% of the house.
According to Sinar Harian, a total of 16 firefighters with 2 fire engines from Gemas Fire Station and Gemencheh went to extinguish the fire. From the conversation with the mother, the father was on duty at the Syed Sirajuddin Army Camp.
At the same time, the police are investigating the cause of the fire whether it is an accident or how this disaster happened. The deputy police chief of Tampin, Deputy Superintendent Ahmad Pilus Zainal said the fire investigation will be confirmed later.
The body has been sent to Tampin Hospital for further investigation.
