A recent experiment in Singapore found that bath towels even after just a few uses can be full of bacteria, mold, and yeast. Yuck.
What they found:
Towels used daily but washed only every few weeks had extremely high bacteria counts. Even weekly-washed towels were dirty if dried in humid bathrooms.
The cleanest towel? Washed every 3-4 days and dried in a sunny, or well-ventilated room.
Why it matters:
Dirty towels can spread infections, especially to people with sensitive skin or weak immune systems.
Bacteria like Pseudomonas and E. coli can cause skin and respiratory issues.
Mold and yeast can trigger allergies or rashes.
How to keep towels clean:
Wash every 3-4 days, dry in sunlight or under a fan.
Avoid leaving towels in damp bathrooms, and use separate towels for face and body.
The best towel materials are bamboo and antimicrobial towels. These are cleaner options than cotton.
