A 26-year-old man was killed after his car crashed into the barrier at KM2.8 on the Penang Bridge this morning. The impact was very strong that it broke the barrier, and some parts of the car fell off the bridge and into the water.
The victim, identified as Lim Yen Tat, was on his way from the island to the mainland before his Volkswagen Beetle lost control, overturned and crashed.
According to the Penang Kini Facebook page, a long skid mark was found on the road, indicating that the victim was probably speeding.
The Star reported that firemen arrived at the scene at 6 am. Lim’s body was removed from the badly smashed car before he was pronounced dead.
His body was sent to the hospital for a post-mortem.
Police are investigating the case.
It is believed that there was another victim due to a pair of women's shoes found in the car. Search ongoing for the allegedly missing victim.
