Friends who plan to ride motorcycles in Thailand, please take note! From June 1, 2025, the Thai police will strictly enforce the behaviour of motorcycle riders and passengers not wearing helmets nationwide. Once caught, they may be fined up to 2,000 baht (about RM260)!
According to Bangkok Post, Pol Lt Gen Nitithorn Jintakanon, head of the Special Task Force for Improving the Image of the Thai Traffic Police, announced the launch of the "Safe Roads Project" on May 27, 2025. The program aims to enhance public awareness of road safety and achieve more effective traffic management.
Pol Lt Gen Nitithorn said that he has instructed police in various provinces of Thailand to target key roads where violations of traffic rules or accidents frequently occur, as well as key roads such as those around schools, and to comprehensively strengthen law enforcement to ensure that all motorcyclists and passengers wear helmets in accordance with the law.
It is worth noting that the fines have increased significantly this time!
Whether you are a motorcyclist or a passenger, you must wear a safety helmet at all times. Violators may be fined up to 2,000 baht (about RM260), and repeat offenders may face double the fine!
Compared to the previous fine of only 500 baht (about RM65), this time the fine has been increased by 4 times, and the fine will make you dare not take risks again!
The police stressed that this "Safe Roads Project" will be strictly implemented in accordance with the Land Traffic Act, with the goal of reducing the risk of traffic accidents and improving travel safety for all.
