Bau: A crane operator and his crane was buried in rubble at the quarry site at Jalan Tanjung Durian, here, yesterday.

The body of the victim, Anthony Kana, 49, was successfully removed today.

Head of Bau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), Tawang Lingem said, his team received a report regarding the incident at 3.18 pm and until 5 pm yesterday, the victim was still not found.

"The incident happened when the victim was leveling the stone at the quarry.

"The victim and the crane were buried under a rubble that was estimated to be 20 meters," he said in a statement.

Tawang said yesterday, four cranes and bulldozers belonging to the quarry company were carrying out work to remove the rubble leading to the scene, which is estimated to be located 50 meters from the control post.

He said the incident was believed to be caused by bombing work to break rocks in the quarry area this morning, causing the rock structure to become unstable and collapse.

Today, after digging, a part of the excavator seats buried was found and the operations commander instructed rescuers to carry out rescue work to remove the trapped body.

He said the body was handed over to the police for further action.
