Do you know that depression is so much more than your mind?
As a matter of fact, it can lead to physical symptoms like fatigue, sleep problems, appetite changes, and even increase risks for serious health conditions.
Besides that, it can also be linked to heart and metabolic disease--this means it raises stress and blood pressure which may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Based on a study, researchers found two main depression profiles.
First type, melancholic symptoms which includes waking up early and a reduced appetite. Second type, atypical/energy-related symptoms which is fatigue, oversleeping and eating more.
The first type of person has melancholic depression meaning a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, like heart attack or stroke. Whereas the second type of person has atypical depression meaning higher risk of type 2 diabetes.
This is because atypical depression often means eating more and moving less and melancholic depression often means poor sleep and low appetite.
So, in conclusion healthy mind means healthy body and vice versa.
