Her pension evaporated overnight, leaving only a few dollars!
An elderly woman in her 60s from Shaanxi, China, went to the bank to withdraw money and found that the money in her bank account was almost empty. She suddenly broke down and rolled on the ground crying in the bank.
According to Oriental Daily News, the incident happened on July 31st. The elderly woman was about to withdraw her pension, but was shocked to find that there was only 5.8 yuan (about RM3.42) left in the card, a full 50,000 yuan (about RM30,000) missing!
According to people at the scene, the old woman said she had never touched the money, no one knew the password, the card had always been at home, she used an old phone with simple functions, did not often go online, did not know how to use electronic payment, her children were not around, and she did not know how the money disappeared.
Bank staff subsequently investigated and responded that the money was paid by her child through a third party, the bank itself was not at fault, and the bank had cooperated with the police investigation throughout the entire process.
The police eventually confirmed that the "missing pension" was actually stolen by the elderly woman's granddaughter while playing games. Since the granddaughter is a minor, the police cannot directly file a case and can only assist the elderly woman in the appeal process, hoping to recover some of the money.
