You may have heard of donating blood to save lives, but have you heard of someone who donated blood 580 times?!
Chen Yiling , a 65-year-old Malaysian Chinese woman, has been donating blood regularly for nearly 50 years. She has now donated blood 580 times in total. This record has earned her the "Medal For Life" from the Ministry of Health!
When she attended the 2025 National World Blood Donor Day Celebration a few days ago, she was asked why she insisted on donating blood. She admitted that it was all because of her mother's illness when she was a child.
"My mother needed a blood transfusion when she had abdominal surgery, but we couldn't find a suitable O+ blood type. Some neighbours even wanted to be paid to donate blood ."
At that time, she was too young to donate blood, and could only watch adults running around begging for blood.
From that time on, she made up her mind that "when I grow up, I must donate blood to help more people."
As an adult, she really kept her word and donated blood at the Tun Razak National Blood Bank every two weeks for decades, just because she didn't want anyone to experience the helplessness she felt back then!
She also hopes that through her own actions, she can call on more people, especially the younger generation, to actively participate in blood donation activities.
In addition to Chen Yiling, the event also presented the "Diamond Award" (Anugerah Delima) to 44-year-old Malay man Norhasri Mohamad Jadi.
When he was a child, he lost a lot of blood in a car accident, which caused damage to the function of his right hand and right foot. But this also made him determined to actively participate in blood donation activities since he was 28 years old. He has donated 99 times so far!
"I know how terrible it is to lose blood, so I hope I can use my strength to help others."
Seeing this, we really respect them! We hope we can all learn from them and save other people's lives!
