One thing that Malaysia can definitely brag about on a worldwide level is our healthcare system. We are known internationally for having the most affordable healthcare system where locals have to pay a mere RM1 in order to consult a professional doctor at a public hospital.
Even so, many skip visiting public hospitals due to the crowds of locals that swarm its doors each day and opt for private hospitals since the are significantly fewer people there.
Recently, a Twitter user, @amirulhanafy shared his experience at one of these local hospitals and it just proves the point that we have the most affordable healthcare system in the world!
Wife aku warded 4 hari 3 malam dekat Hospital Putrajaya, March lalu. Sebelum aku ambil dia dekat ward, wife pesan untuk bayar bil rawatan dan kos ward dekat kaunter dulu. Aku risau dan berpeluh-peluh. Pergi ATM keluarkan duit RM400.

In the viral Tweet, the user explained that his wife was warded for 4 days and 3 nights at a public hospital in March. After she was discharged, he went to the counter to pay for the treatment cost and ward stay cost. Worried that it was going to cost a fortune, he decided to withdraw RM400 from the ATM beforehand.
He said he was so worried and sweaty as he withdrew the money but when he went to the counter, the nurse informed him that his bill was RM17! He was honestly shocked. He even got his debit card standing by just in case the RM400 wasn't enough.
Stunned at how cheap the bill was he asked his wife about the conditions of her stay. First asking about the food to which she responded by saying that meals were given 5 times a day and that she had just enjoyed some kurma chicken. Still not satisfied, he then asked about the care given at the hospital to which she responded by saying that a nurse checked in on her every hour!
He then asked his wife to guess how much the bill was and she guessed RM300. When he told her it was only RM17, she was just as shocked as he was!
Still unsatisfied with how cheap the bill was, he then went to work the next day and asked his co-worker about the cost and his co-worker responded by saying that when he or his wife or children were admitted, it barely cost him RM10.
The netizen then shared that after this experience he had a newfound respect for our healthcare system. He pointed out that even though we have to wait for hours to meet the doctor at times, it is completely worth it rather than spending thousands at private hospitals that give you the same quality of treatment.
