If you want to know, even buying fresh produce at the supermarket comes with its own set of tips. For instance, if you spot fish eyes that are red, it indicates that the seafood is not fresh and less than ideal. Just recently, a video went viral on TikTok (@nayyarozali) where a woman complained about allegedly being scammed by a market vendor who handed her a bag of spoiled mackerel after she had made the payment.

Nayya claimed that this incident occurred at a supermarket around Pasir Gudang, Johor Bahru. Initially, the vendor had selected and scooped fresh fish right in front of Nayya, priced at RM7 per kilogram. The fish was then taken to the back of the shop for packaging. However, without her knowledge, the crafty vendor had wrapped a bag of spoiled fish and substituted it for the ones selected by the customer.

"When we select our fish, the vendor skillfully swaps the fresh ones we picked with spoiled ones behind the cash counter, then passes it to you slyly," she stated with disappointment. Annoyed over the vendor's actions, Nayya made it clear that she would not consider the money the vendor earned from selling the spoiled fish as Halal. "Remember, I do not consider this purchase Halal in any way," Nayya stated.

At the same time, she issued a warning to customers to always be vigilant and check their items before leaving the store. Since the video was posted, it has received various reactions from the public. Cases like this have been happening for a long time, where vendors provide customers with unfresh fish and less than the actual weight.

Some users also expressed disappointment with business owners who practice unscrupulous methods. For those who have been scammed by vendors when buying items from shops, complaints can be reported to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Malaysia (KPDN) for legal action to be taken against the responsible parties.
