When Two Athletes Decided To Share Their Gold Medals | Most Iconic Moment In The Tokyo Olympics So Far:

02-Aug-2021
By Ayunie

The world witnessed an unprecedented yet glorious event at Tokyo‘s Olympics, specifically during Men’s High Jump finals when Qatar’s Mutaz Barshim and Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi decided that they were both worthy of a gold medal... and well, the rest is wholesome history.

This was, in its essence, a brilliant and charismatic showcase of sportsmanship and beyond all, a mark of true friendship between rivals. Having been good friends outside of the tracks, perhaps Barshim understood too well what this win meant for Tamberi, as he previously faced devastation over Achilles injury that prevented him from competing in the Rio's Olympics four years prior.

A well-deserved win for both of these athletes— and one, for humanity too. There is, indeed, good amidst the chaos. No matter what kind. Congratulations to Mutaz Barshim and Gianmarco Tamberi for their golds and for etching yet another unforgettable moment in the history of the Olympics!
