Singapore's Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has announced that visitors travelling by car through Singapore's land checkpoints will be able to clear immigration using QR codes in early 2024.

The Automated Passenger In-Car Clearance System (APICS) will be implemented at all car counters in the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints.

Once fully implemented, the automated system will allow visitors to clear immigration from within their cars with minimal intervention from officers.

In the first phase, officers will still be stationed at manual counters, where they will conduct facial image checks of passengers within cars using data obtained through the QR codes.

Visitors will be able to save their profiles and use them for future visits without having to input their details again.

The ICA will gradually replace manual counters at passenger halls across all checkpoints with around 800 new automated clearance lanes under the Automated Border Control System (ABCS) from the first quarter of 2024.

The ABCS lanes will allow visitors to enjoy touchless clearance without having to show their passports.

The new system will provide visitors with a smoother and faster clearance experience while allowing the ICA to handle the increase in visitor numbers and limited manpower.
