Every Uncontrollably Fond fan has been on the edge of their seats awaiting the reunion of Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin onscreen again. Thus, stoked they were when the announcement of Genie, Make A Wish hit the Internet. 

However, merely after a week since its released, the show has been dropped, critiqued and labelled as perhaps the worst K-Drama of 2025. 

If you're wondering why, here are a few reasons we've gathered. 

1. Religious controversy over 'Iblis'

The biggest reason for the outrage is the use of the name Iblis for the male lead genie. 

In Islamic theology, Iblis is the devil the embodiment of ultimate evil. Turning him into a romantic antihero sparked accusations of cultural insensitivity and religious disrespect, leading to global backlash and boycott calls. 

Many viewers compared it to turning Satan into a misunderstood boyfriend.

2. Poor ratings across platforms

Despite Netflix hype, the drama tanked in ratings:

IMDb: 5.5/10

Google Reviews: 5.9/10

Rotten Tomatoes Audience: As low as 0.5/5 stars 

Thousands of one-star reviews cite disrespectful themes, weak storytelling, and bad acting. Its now considered the lowest-rated K-drama of 2025.

3. Weak plot, zero chemistry and cringy storyline/dialogue

Another big flaw lies in its writing.  A weak, disjointed plot paired with zero romantic chemistry between the leads. Despite the star power, their interactions feel awkward and forced, making the love story hard to believe.

Short-lived anticipation it would seem. Here's hoping they come back stronger on the next one!
