Even though they hadn't been in touch for years, she was still his best friend's daughter. But imagine seeing your old friends again – after marrying their child! 

According to SETC Sanli News Network, a program under Japan's Asahi TV recently shared a shocking love story – not just because of the 30-year age gap, but because of how the two met.

The man, a bar owner, met a woman many years ago at a party – she also ran a bar, and they soon became close friends. One day, this friend asked him to help look after her 5-year-old daughter. But as time passed, the two adults lost touch.

Fifteen years later, they met again by chance. To his surprise, his friend's daughter had grown up and taken over her mother's bar. He was happy to see her doing well – but that unexpected reunion also marked the beginning of something more.

Nine months later, the man and his old friend (the mother) planned to watch a movie together with her daughter. But when the mother couldn't make it at the last minute, only he and the daughter went.

That night, the now 20-year-old woman realized she had developed feelings for him. Soon after, they began dating – and she even shared stories from their dates with her mother!

After three years together, the man finally proposed, and she said yes. Unsurprisingly, her mother did not approve of the relationship – after all, how many people could accept their old friend becoming their son-in-law?

Still, the couple went ahead and got married on New Years Day, 2025. Now 53, the man admitted on the TV program, "If I were her father, I would never have agreed to this marriage." He even took the chance to publicly apologise to his mother-in-law.
