In an awe-inspiring display of community spirit and dedication to heritage, the residents of Desa Melor in Serendah, Selangor, have accomplished what many would deem impossible. On a memorable Sunday, with the assistance of numerous volunteers, they successfully relocated an entire traditional Malay house. This remarkable feat was documented and shared on TikTok, showcasing the villagers' determination and unity in preserving their cultural heritage.

The wooden house was seen being physically moved from its original spot by a coordinated team of volunteers. The footage reveals the meticulous efforts of the villagers, who ensured that every part of the house was moved flawlessly, avoiding any damage or accidents. The sense of community and cooperation was palpable, reflecting the strong ties and shared goals among the residents.

Jonid Ahmad, the house owner, shared insights into the process. He explained that their initial attempt to move the house manually, a method traditionally known as 'carrying the house,' was unsuccessful due to incorrect techniques. However, after seeking expert advice and learning the proper methods, the volunteers were able to execute the move successfully on their second attempt.

The house, which holds over 100 years of history and cherished memories, was originally built in Muar, Johor. It had previously been relocated to Serendah and needed to be moved again to make way for the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project. Jonid emphasized the importance of preserving the traditional Malay methods in the relocation process. He chose to avoid modern equipment, staying true to the old ways and honoring the house's historical significance.

This event is more than just a physical relocation; it is a testament to the power of community, tradition, and the enduring value of cultural heritage. The successful move of Jonid Ahmad's house serves as an inspiring example of what can be achieved when people come together with a common purpose and respect for their shared history.

As the house settles into its new location, it continues to stand as a symbol of resilience and unity, reminding us all of the importance of preserving our cultural legacies for future generations.
