Picture of a Chinese couple visiting their late son's gravesite at a Muslim cemetery has earned the praise and affection of many online.

In a viral post by Facebook user Joy MamaNunai MamaNunai, which has gained more than 3,200 likes, it appears that the Chinese parents were there to perform some housekeeping, cleaning and washing off the dirt on the gravestone with some bottled water.

Joy also wrote that they then seemed to be meditating before realising they were being watched (by Joy and a family member with her). They smiled back, Joy added.

The couple told her that the grave belongs to their son, who had converted to Islam when he married a Malay woman.

He passed away four years ago from brain cancer, they told her.

Joy said in the caption: "The love of a father and mother for their child is endless; even beyond religion."

Joy's post has so far received about 1,900 shares and 215 comments from fellow Facebook users.

Facebook user Mra Will said: "Even though I have converted to Islam, every time I return home, I will visit the grave of my late mother who is a Christian. A mother's love is hard to replace. I miss it for sure. May their souls rest in peace there.

Hawa Hawa said: "Al Fatihah. May the deceased be blessed and be placed with the believers."

Meanwhile, another user shared: "It's really sad. (It's) almost the same as the story of my late brother who died in an accident. My mother couldn't touch the dead body and saw it from afar only because it was forbidden by the ustaz as if the deceased person wasn't her son."
