ICYMI: WATCH: Msian Accidentally Filmed Himself Getting Pickpoketed While In London

Food has always been part of Malaysian culture and Malaysians have always enjoyed the flavours and the varieties that are available within arms reach.

However, Malaysian food is not just celebrated locally, but in other countries too. An Instagram page known as @infatuation_london released a video of a restaurant which serves Malaysian and Singapore cuisine in London.

The name of the restaurant is Roti King, and there are two outlets in the United Kingdom, one in Euston and the other at the Battersea Power Station. The video shows the Euston outlet. It is a restaurant that does not accept reservations which means during peak hours, the queue to enter the restaurant can be quite long, as evident in the video. Even the person in the video had to wait 40 to 50 minutes before getting to a table.

The food that is served there ranges from Roti Canai with Dhal, Chicken Curry, Fish Curry, Beef Rendang, and Mutton Curry, to Nasi Lemak, Kari Laksa, Char Kuey Teow, and Murtabak.

The video also shows the chef making roti canai. To us, it's something we see all the time, but for the person in the video, it was a therapeutic experience. Well, why would it not be? Making roti canai is an art, and when it is done right, the dish becomes a masterpiece.

From the video, it can be seen the roti was made crispy and flaky, and the curries which were served together with the roti looked appetizing and delicious. The reviewer also tried the Kari Laksa, and in her own words, The curry broth, together with coconut milk and the chicken, really hit the spot.

They also tried the infamous Kangkung Belacan. What seems like an ordinary dish to us here is very much enjoyed by the people in London.

So who is the Roti King?

The Roti King is Ipoh-born and raised Sugendran Gopal. Euston was his first Roti King outlet which opened its doors in 2014. The second outlet in Battersea came about just last year.

According to the Roti Kings website, Sugen was no stranger to the restaurant business as his family has a restaurant in Ipoh. His parents ran Gopals Corner in Buntong. In London, Sugendran first started selling roti canai at Oriental City in Colindale but decided to open his own restaurant when the oriental city site was shut down by developers.
