Is it hard to be culturally sensitive when travelling?
According to German expat @issavibewithlaura, she felt compelled to speak up on the issue after seeing the recent “mess” created by tourists while they were travelling in Malaysia.
In Laura’s latest video, she called out the European tourists on two occasions: the first being the Batu Caves incident, where the former got upset after they were banned from visiting the religious site due to inappropriate clothing.
Next, another European tourist had complained that guys were “ogling” her body while walking around KL- also due to similar reason.
Laura repeatedly warned that the tourists should’ve learned to respect the local norms, instead of expecting Malaysians to accept their western lifestyle, particularly when it comes to wearing mini skirts and tank tops in public or religious spaces here.
Many Malaysians have expressed their agreement towards her statement, calling that no matter where we go, we should be respectful of people’s beliefs.
